The Cleveland Police Department continues to investigate the Friday homicide of a local business owner. The murder is believed to be gang related.

There has been little information released regarding the investigation since it began Friday.

According to Cleveland Police Chief Wes Snyder, officers responded to the Viva Mexico grocery store, located at 110 Keith St. S.E., shortly before 11 a.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call from the store owner's wife.

Officers found store owner Fredy Perez Roblero, 37, lying dead in the floor.

Preliminary investigations by the Cleveland Police Department indicated the homicide was possibly motivated by a robbery and Roblero was shot in the head; however, Snyder said investigators quickly ruled out robbery and examiners determined Roblero died from a stab wound.

"Based on what we're seeing this is not a robbery. It appears right now that someone was sending a message. There is a distinct possibility this is gang related," Snyder said.

According to reports, there have not been any arrests; however, police are looking for a delivery driver who was reportedly seen at the store the morning of the incident.

Snyder said Roblero's wife told investigators her husband opened the store at 9 a.m. She arrived at the store shortly after 10 a.m. and discovered him dead.

Detectives were on the scene for several hours Friday interviewing witnesses, taking photographs and lifting fingerprints.

Roblero's family members sat on the curb outside the store crying as they answered investigators' questions.

Officers detained and questioned an unknown Hispanic male who was in the vicinity of the crime scene, but later released him.

Snyder said, "It appears someone was very angry at this man. We're uncertain of the number of stab wounds the victim received. It's a very graphic scene. This does not fit the criteria of a robbery gone bad."
