Police in Dallas, Texas arrested three members of the Venezuelan street gang Tren de Aragua last week on charges of aggravated robbery connected to a violent home invasion that took place in late September.

According to the criminal complaint, the female homeowner had just pulled into her garage and was getting out of her car when she was approached by four men, dragged into the house, bound and robbed. The criminals hit the woman over the head with a gun, threatened to cut off her fingers, and stole valuables, including jewelry and a Gucci handbag.

A single fingerprint, supplemented with video footage of a car in the neighborhood, led police to arrest the first suspect, 28-year-old Manuel Hernandez-Hernandez.

The other three suspects, 20-year-old Yean Brayhan Torrealba-Sanabria, 34-year-old Carlos Alberto Martinez-Silva and 27-year-old Wilmer Jesus Colmenares-Gonzalez were arrested last week after a standoff with police near Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. All four suspects are from Venezuela and are being held under a detainer placed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to a statement made by Hernandez-Hernandez to police, at least three of the men were members of the Tren de Aragua gang. Federal immigration officials have so far confirmed one of the suspects, Colmenares-Gonzales, as a member of Tren de Aragua. Mr. Colmenares-Gonzales reportedly has a pending application for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which, if granted, would have shielded him from deportation.

The attack, in an upscale neighborhood, has hammered home an increasingly uncomfortable truth — that mass migration has helped foreign gangs to establish a presence across the U.S., targeting Americans for crimes. While Tren de Aragua captures headlines, gangs from other countries pose a threat too.

In October 2024, 8 Salvadoran gang members were arrested following a series of crimes, including sex crimes, in the ultra-wealthy communities of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

Other wealthy neighborhoods across the country have reported organized burglaries by professional foreign gangs. Sheriff Michael Bouchard of Oakland County, Michigan, identified gangs from a wide range of countries, including Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras. By the time the gangs finish, the upscale homes are completely stripped of valuables.

These criminal alien gangs may consider wealthy neighborhoods prime targets, but they also terrorize the neighborhoods where they settle.

Most recently, Tren de Aragua seized control of a low-income housing complex in Aurora, Colorado, where the gang members, some brandishing long-barrel assault rifles, could be seen prowling the stairways in viral video footage.

One resident, who repeatedly called 911 to report crimes, was allegedly asked by a dispatch caller whether she had considered leaving. The resident told CBS Colorado “If I could afford to leave, I wouldn’t be there!” This testifies to the helplessness many Americans feel when the migrant crisis leaves them little choice. The notoriety of the gang’s activities was such that the apartment buildings have since been sold.

Immigrants are also becoming victims of these criminal alien gangs. In June, the immigrant owner of a jewelry shop in Highland Park, Colorado, was beaten and pistol-whipped by alleged members of Tren de Aragua. Nearly $2.5 million in merchandise was stolen. The owner told Spanish-language channel Telemundo“I thought I was going to die.” In August, the Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted four alleged members of the gang for this crime.

Migrant gangs are even threatening the police. According to Homeland Security Investigations, Tren de Aragua gave a “green light” to shoot American police officers.

In June 2024, gang member Bernardo Raul Castro Mata allegedly shot two NYPD officers, telling investigators it was “common practice” to do so in Venezuela. He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Attacks on law enforcement pushed the American Sheriff Alliance to issue a press release in August 2024, stating “…it is clear due to the threats issued by gang leadership to kill and injure our law enforcement officers across the country that more needs to be done to stymie the flow of members of TDA into the U.S.”

While Americans are naturally horrified when they hear about the violence perpetrated by Tren de Aragua and other criminal alien gangs, what is particularly tragic is that many of these gang members are entering the U.S. through the Biden-Harris immigration policies. The New York Post reports Colmenares-Gonzalez illegally crossed the border into Brownsville, Texas with his wife and a Chilean child in April 2023, where they were quickly released with a future court date. Hernandez-Hernandez illegally crossed the border into El Paso, Texas, in March 2024 and was also released with a future court date.

Instead of being released, however, illegal border crossers should be detained, placed into expedited removal (as is required by law), and then removed to their home countries, or if that is not possible, to a safe third country.

Clearly, with respect to the Dallas homeowner robbed at gunpoint, this did not happen because the Biden-Harris Administration has committed itself to releasing as many illegal migrants as possible. She, and Americans in general, are the true victims of the administration’s policies.
