Police are still searching for the truck driver who struck a pedestrian on the south side on Saturday.

The white Chevy truck with Sonoran(Mexico) license plates was traveling in the northbound lanes of South Campbell Avenue near East Irvington Road around 3:15 p.m. when it hit the 66-year-old man, police say.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died several hours later, says Sgt. Diana Lopez, a spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, wasn't in a crosswalk, police say.

Witnesses say the driver tried to avoid the accident, but couldn't stop in time.

When police arrived, the truck - a 90's model with large tires and rims - was gone.

Police ask anyone with information about the truck to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
