Authorities say that an illegal alien who had been twice deported from the U.S. is responsible for the gruesome death of a mother and her two children in Des Moines, Iowa. The shocking murder occurred just one day after the suspect, Marvin Oswaldo Esquivel-Lopez, 31, appeared in court regarding a hit-and-run from May 2019 as well as driving without a license and insurance.

Esquivel-Lopez, 31, allegedly shot and killed Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez, 29, Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores, 11, and Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, 5, on Tuesday night.

Apparently, Esquivel-Lopez is not the man's real name. "Escobar-Orellana, aka, Marvin O. Esquivel-Lopez, was previously (deported) from the United States in 2010 and again in 2011," ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer told the Des Moines Register. "He has a prior federal conviction for illegal entry into the United States in 2010. He is not currently in ICE custody."

It is unclear why the illegal alien was living with Flores-Rodrigues and her two children, but police do not suspect the two had a romantic relationship.

"We may never know what the motive was," Sgt. Paul Parizek said Wednesday afternoon. "All we know is there was some sort of dispute between this man and the victim and he ended up, allegedly, shooting three people because of it. It's just sad."

Authorities had ample opportunity to apprehend Esquivel-Lopez and take him off the streets. According to the Des Moines Register, "Iowa court records show a handful of traffic tickets for Esquivel-Lopez. He had appeared in court Monday, a day before the shootings, and agreed to pay more than $1,400 in fines and fees related to a May traffic incident" for a hit-and-run in which he was cited for failure to maintain control and driving without a license or proof of insurance.

Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores was going to start middle school next fall and her brother, Ever, was going to start kindergarten.

The children's principal issued the following statement to their school following the announcement of their death:

"It goes without saying how horrible this tragedy is and we are all devastated by this news. Please keep Daniela’s extended family in your heart and prayers plus all the people here at Moulton that got to know and love Daniela."
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on the suspect.

Illegal charged with killing Iowa woman and her two children had been deported twice

By World Tribune on July 19, 2019

An illegal immigrant who had previously been deported on two occasions only to re-enter the U.S. was arrested on July 16 and charged with the murder of an Iowa woman and her children ages 11 and 5, a report said.

Marvin Oswaldo Escobar-Orellana, in the U.S. illegally from Guatemala, was arrested in Des Moines after he allegedly shot 29-year-old Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez, 11-year-old Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores, and 5-year-old Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, according an Associated Press report.

Orellana was booked in the Polk County Jail on three counts of first degree murder, authorities say. He gave deputies a fake name — Marvin Esquivel Lopez — in the hopes of evading deportation, the report said. His bail is set at $3 million.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE spokesman) Shawn Neudauer told the Associated Press that Orellana had been deported in 2010 and 2011, and convicted of illegal entry. He crossed the border around Laredo, Texas, was sentenced to 15 days in jail and ordered not to return — a command by which he did not abide.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Orellana allegedly killed the mother and her two children after an argument in their shared home. The illegal immigrant then dialed 911 and allegedly fabricated a story about the mother killing her two children, saying he had to kill her in self-defense, the AP report said.
Investigators did not buy Orellana’s story.

“That’s probably one of the harder parts for the families and sometimes the first responders is, everybody wants to know why. The community wants to know why this happened, particularly the two precious little kids and the sad part is we may never know why,” Des Moines Police Spokesman Paul Parizek told NBC 13.

© WHO A female child, a male child, and a female adult were found dead inside a Des Moines, Iowa home Tuesday night.A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a 29-year-old woman and her two children were found shot to death Tuesday night at their home in Des Moines, Iowa, police said.

Officers were called to the home at around 11 p.m. where they discovered the bodies of Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez, her 11-year-old daughter, Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores, and her 5-year-old son, Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, authorities said.

All three victims sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of deaths, police said.

Marvin Oswaldo Esquivel-Lopez, 31, was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, police said.

Investigators said Esquivel-Lopez and his wife and children shared the house with Flores-Rodriguez and her children.

Des Moines police spokesman Paul Parizek said the victims were renting the lower portion of the duplex from the suspect and his family, according to video from NBC affiliate WHO of Des Moines.

There was a dispute before the killings, and afterward Esquivel-Lopez called 911, police said.

"Everybody wants to know why. The community wants to know why this happened — particularly the two precious little kids," Parizek said. "The sad part is, we may never know why."

The man identified by police as Esquivel-Lopez is in the country illegally and his real name is Marvin Oswaldo Escobar-Orellana, a spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement said.

ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer said Escobar-Orellana is "a twice-removed illegal alien from Guatemala" who was deported from the United States in 2010 and 2011. He has a prior federal conviction for illegal entry into the U.S. in 2010, the spokesman said.

The suspect is being held without bail at the Polk County Jail, according to online jail records.

Neudauer said ICE deportation officers have filed an immigration detainer and administrative arrest warrant.

    Here is what we know.

Twice-Deported Illegal Alien Charged With Three Murders — Two Were ChildrenAn illegal immigrant from Guatemala, who has twice been deported, was arrested Tuesday in connection to the murders of an Iowa woman and her two children.

Marvin Oswaldo Escobar-Orellana, 31, was arrested after he allegedly shotthe family with which he lived in Des Moines, Iowa, and called 911 on himself. Orellana is the suspect in the murder of 29-year-old Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez and her two children, Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores, 11, and Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, 5, according an Associated Press report.

Orellana was deported in both 2010 and 2011, and convicted of illegal entry. He crossed the border around Laredo, Texas, was sentenced to 15 days in jail and ordered not to return — a command by which he did not abide, ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer confirmed with AP. Orellana allegedly killed the family after an argument ensued in their shared home, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. He then dialed 911 and allegedly fabricated a story about Rodriguez killing the two children, saying he had to kill her in self-defense, the AP reports.

Investigators are uncertain about why the murders occurred, but they did not buy Orellana’s story.
