MCALLEN -- Mexican authorities announced Friday the arrests of two men and the seizure of a weapons cache in San Fernando.

The weapons cache was found Wednesday on the outskirts of San Fernando when Mexican marines, acting on an anonymous tip, found the weapons in two different places.

In total, the Marines seized 10 assault rifles, one rocket launcher, one grenade, 168 ammunition magazines and 5,000 ammunition rounds. Authorities also seized a stolen SUV.

The two men were arrested one day earlier, when the Mexican navy responded to an anonymous complaint of gunmen hijacking vehicles at the 73-kilometer marking of the Reynosa San Fernando highway in the Francisco I. Madero rural area, according to a news release from the Mexican navy.

Mexican marines swarmed the area and ended up arresting Edgar Oswaldo Silva Padilla and Juan Pablo Bocanegra Gonzalez, who were driving a stolen pickup. A search of the pickup revealed three assault rifles, five ammunition magazines,303 ammunition rounds, 24 tire spikes and approximately seven pounds of marijuana.
