On Friday, Rufino Oliva-Madrid, 34, and Jose Vasquez-Reyes, 45 were sentenced to 15 and 11 years in federal prison, respectively. Both were part of a cocaine ring which distributed drugs in Northern Virginia for a Mexican cartel.

According to U.S. Department of Justice spokesman Peter Carr, Oliva-Madrid and Vasquez-Reyes are part of a 15-member Mexican drug trafficking organization. So far, 11 of the conspirators have pleaded guilty, two more are awaiting trial and two are in jail on separate charges in other jurisdictions.

On July 16, Oliva-Madrid pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, admitting that he not only ran the operation in Virginia, but worked to expand distribution operations into Philadelphia.

On July 7, Vasquez-Reyes also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine. When police raided his home, they found $210,936 in cash, 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and firearms.

A Loudoun County business, JD Granite Countertops, was allegedly used as a stash house for the trafficking ring.

Both Oliva-Madrid and Vasquez-Reyes are Mexican nationals and should be deported upon completion of their sentences.
