Police arrested two individuals on suspicion of smuggling undocumented immigrants today after they discovered 24 migrants in a house near Thomas Road, Phoenix police said.

A policeman was initially in the process of recovering a stolen vehicle on the 3000 block of 39th Avenue, when he received a tip from a neighborhood resident about a suspicious house. He then went into an alleyway to peek through the fence of the house, where he saw a second stolen vehicle.

Police discovered two "coyotes" in the house, along with 24 immigrants. The accused smugglers were arrested by police and the undocumented immigrants were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

llegal immigration typically rises this time of year because people are returning to the United States after going home for Christmas or are crossing the border to take advantage of the moderate weather.
