BOISE - Law enforcement agencies in Ada and Canyon counties will be the first in the state to use fingerprint information to check FBI criminal history records and immigration records maintained by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Thursday.

The program, called Secure Communities, helps the agency better identify legal and illegal immigrants at the time they are fingerprinted and booked on criminal charges.

The agency plans to expand this capability to all state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the nation.
