Two Salvadoran illegal aliens received light sentences following their conviction for assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol agent last year.

A Border Patrol agent working near Carrizo Springs in the Del Rio Sector on February 18, 2015, came upon two illegal aliens from El Salvador who had just scaled a high fence and entered the U.S. The Illegal aliens fled and the agent captured them. They subsequently became combative and assaulted the agent, information provided to Breitbart Texas by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed.

During the struggle the two illegal aliens attempted to choke the agent. They then reached for his sidearm and baton. Either of those weapons could have been used to take the agents life. Fearing for his life, the agent drew his pistol and fired at the illegal aliens. One was shot and the other fled.

The injured Salvadoran, later identified as 19-year-old Carlos Enrique Campos-Carcamo, was transported to an area hospital where he recovered from his wound. His accomplice, Saul Ernesto Carcamo-Henriquez, 39, was found shortly after with assistance from a CBP Air and Marine Operations helicopter. Both men were arrested and charged with assaulting the Border Patrol agent.

“Our agents take on an arduous task in carrying out their lawful duties on a daily basis,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch said in the written statement. “There are serious consequences to dangerous and willful acts.

Despite the “dangerous and willful acts,” Campos was only sentenced to 27 months in a federal prison. His accomplice Carcamo, received a slightly stiffer penalty of 63 months in prison.

Karisch said, “Assault on a Border Patrol agent is a federal offense for which we will always seek prosecution.” Border Patrol agents have told Breitbart Texas this is not necessarily true. Agents have said that unless an agent is severely injured, charges of assaulting the officer are often not prosecuted.

Just last week, Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon broke the news that a Border Patrol agent in Arizona was forced to shoot and kill an illegal alien who brutally beat him after stealing his baton. The alien had previously attempted to choke the agent and steal his service weapon.

Ten days earlier, Breitbart Texas reported that another Border Patrol agent in Arizona was assaulted by an alleged cartel smuggling scout who was trying to escape. The agent pepper sprayed the man and took him into custody. He charged with assaulting the agent. It remains to be seen if the man will actually be prosecuted.
