Jorge Antonia Dominguez-Cervantes, 46, of Dubuque, and, Gerardo Uribe-Marin, 41, of Hazel Green, Wis., were sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

They were arrested after a search of their apartment last March uncovered equipment and materials used to make false documents.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Reinert said the identities of more than 100 people were compromised during the fake document-making operation. As many as 1,600 identity documents were seized during the search, he said.

Dominguez-Cervantes pleaded guilty on May 1 to one count of production of false identification cards, one count of production of false immigration documents, two counts of possession of false identification of another person, one count of possession of a document-making implement, one count of conspiracy to produce or falsify documents and one count of money laundering.

Uribe-Marin pleaded guilty on May 22 to one count of production of false documents, two counts of production of false identification cards, one count of production of false immigration documents and one count of money laundering.

Dominguez-Cervantes and Uribe-Marin, both natives of Veracruz, Mexico, admitted that they produced fraudulent documents, including resident alien cards, Social Security Cards and drivers licenses for illegal immigrants.

Dominguez-Cervantes was sentenced to 95 months in prison. Uribe-Marin was sentenced to 81 months in prison. Both men will be deported upon their completion of their sentences, Reinert said.

The men also agreed to forfeit $3,780 in cash and 5,000 Mexican pesos in proceeds obtained through illegal activity, as well as document-making equipment, computers and cameras seized during the search.

A third person, Moelia Moran-Rodriguez, was indicted on March 26 and pleaded guilty to possession of a false personal identification card.

Moran-Rodriguez was sentenced to time served and deportation, officials with the U.S. attorney's office said.
