AUSTIN -- The Austin City Council says it can not support the controversial anti-day labor site House Bill 904 filed in the State Legislature.
The bill would make making building or operating day labor sites with undocumented immigrants illegal. There is already a day labor site in Central Austin, and there is currently negotiation on the construction of a second site.
"It really isn't about employment practices, it's about immigrant bashing. If we think it's inappropriate to hire illegal immigrants, then the laws that we are affecting should speak to that issue," said Austin City Councilman Mike Martinez.

Texas Lawmakers Want To Ban Day Labor Sites
State lawmakers want to outlaw day labor sites like the one in Austin.
One bill filed stipulated that if illegal immigrants use the site, then cities can't use taxes to pay for it.
City leaders said that's bad legislation, and the sites are a necessary service to businesses, contractors and workers.
"We're providing a service, and it's a service that's open to anyone that lives in Austin and anyone who wants to do business or find labor in Austin," said City Councilman Mike Martinez. "It's not about employment practices. It's about facilitation of a process."
The city has a day labor site in North Austin and plans to build another in South Austin.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

These laws aren't immigrant bashing, they're illegal alien bashing.

We have jobs south of the border at the Maquiladora factories and it has done nothing but pull Mexicans from Central and South Mexico towards America. They quit thier jobs and cross the border.

Looks like the rest of TX should load all their illegal aliens up and send them to Austin. Let Martinez "facilitate" their employment which, IMO, is the same as aiding and abetting law breakers.

Martinez's comments are typical of the sort of Balkanization we're starting to see down here as Latinos gain increasing control of the political process. They are taking over the police departments and school boards in all the major urban areas.
