TX: A border agent was arrested
(322/07 - SAN ANTONIO, TX)
A border agent was arrested on charges of aiding an immigrant smuggler in Laredo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jose Ramiro Arredondo, a 33-year-old Customs and Border Protection agent, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, accused of helping an alleged smuggler bypass inspection booths at the Bridge of the Americas at least three times.
The accused smuggler, Enrique Aguilar Rios, told investigators that Arredondo helped him and three illegal immigrants get through the border by bypassing the inspection booth on Jan. 9. An agriculture inspector stopped the group before they could leave the building, however, and they were arrested.
Surveillance video showed Arredondo escorting Aguilar and others on three occasions, authorities said. The agent was allegedly paid by a Mexican smuggler.
Arredondo has been on unpaid administrative leave since Jan. 9, said CBP spokesman Rick Pauza.

Agents like Arredondo make it tough on honest agents. I think it's time for some personnel changes along the Mexican border. I recommend those folks that were born and raised along the border receive a transfer to the Canadian border. They could be replaced with their Northern peers. Personally, I think we have too many agents along the Mexican border that are connected to Mexico by friends, family, former school buddies, etc. Why keep them in a position of temptation? There is just to many opportunities for those with Mexico connections to earn crooked dollars along the Mexican border. Just a thought.........

Well, if they are opperating with military percision, like they should be then they should have their stations moved around and cross trained so they can be located to a new position periodically and randomly.
