LAREDO, Texas — Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents stopped two trucks Saturday attempting to smuggle 16 undocumented immigrants.

Border Patrol agents said 16 undocumented immigrants were arrested Saturday along Interstate Highway 35 near Laredo. Agents encountered two suspicious trucks, and when they attempted to stop the trucks, the brown 2003 Ford F-350 bailed out and agents arrested the 16 undocumented immigrants on sight.

The second vehicle, a grey 2004 Ford F-150, was encountered by agents farther down the highway. Authorities discovered the driver of the grey truck was the owner for the brown truck carrying the undocumented immigrants.

Agents also said they found several cut padlocks and fences along the route taken by both vehicles.

Authorities said the 16 undocumented immigrants are from Mexico and the driver was a U.S. citizen. The driver and undocumented immigrants were arrested and the trucks were seized by Border Patrol.
