What do Continental Airlines, the Houston Ballet, the city of Dallas and Sen. John Cornyn all have in common?

They all use the federal government’s E-Verify program to check if their employees are authorized to work in the U.S. legally.

A Department of Homeland Security database of the more than 118,000 public, private and government employers enrolled in E-Verify as of May 1 shows companies big (Tyson Foods) and small (the Ballard Street Café in Wylie) are signed up for the program.

Enrollment has grown exponentially in recent years, with about 1,000 employers signing up each week for the free Web-based program, according to DHS statistics. More than 6,100 Texas employers have enrolled as of May 1, including at least 60 city, county and state agencies. (See names of some of the participating companies here. http://www.chron.com/databases/e-verify )

The city of Houston and Harris County aren’t among them. Lakewood Church and the Houston Rockets, however, use E-Verify.

DHS Secretary Napolitano recently stated that the focus will be on employers who knowingly hire and employ illegal alien workers. Even if the use of E-Verify is never mandated by the Federal Government, let's hope that businesses use it anyway, as a self-defensive measure. If businesses use E-Verify, and terminate their illegal workers, then, theoretically, they can never be busted by Nappy, who has recently boasted that they're going to "go after" these same employers.

If this trend catches on, and more and more businesses sign-up to E-Verify to verify their workers, illegals will have fewer places to run to to find work. Combined with the slumping economy, they might just deport themselves.

Perhaps this is why Resident Obama wants an Amnesty bill before the end of the year. By the time enough businesses sign-up to E-Verify, compelling illegal aliens to deport themselves, Obama wants his Amnesty to arrive in "the nick of time". He wouldn't want to lose all of those millions of potential Democratic votes, before they would deport themselves.

If we can figure out a way to put an automated rover on Mars we can come up with a workable Everify system.

I hate when people try and make enforcing our immigration laws seem soo impossible.

In April, the Obama administration announced new guidelines that increase the focus on employers who break the law.
What guidlines? Find illegal aliens and give them work permits?(sarsm)
Why didnt the Obama administration insist on employers using E-Verify which is so easy?
