    8 Illegals Behind Bars

    Smuggler escaped

    PENITAS - Eight illegals are behind bars after a high-speed chase in Penitas. But the smuggler escaped authorities.

    The pursuit started when a Penitas police officer noticed the paper plates on a pickup truck were off.

    When she tried to pull the driver over, he refused. After 11 miles, he eventually stopped the truck on a dirt road near 9 Mile Line and Iowa Road.

    Penitas officers and Border Patrol agents caught up with the illegals. We're told they're all men and women from Chiapas, Mexico.

    But the smuggler took off in the brush. A Border Patrol helicopter and a number of officers searched for the man. But he hasn't been found.

    Hopefully he will die of exposure.
