A senior Federal Reserve economist will speak today at UTEP as part of the Mexico Today lecture series.
Pia M. Orrenius, a senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, will give a presentation titled "Moving Toward the Integration of North American Labor Markets."

The lecture is at 5 p.m. today at the Undergraduate Learning Center, Room 106. It is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. A reception in the UGLC lobby will follow.

The lecture is part of a series that offers the public an opportunity to learn more about the political, economic and social trends of Mexico and their impact on the future of the U.S.-Mexico border region.

As a labor economist and member of the Dallas regional group, Orrenius analyzes the regional economy, with a special focus on the border, a UTEP news release stated. Orrenius' research also focuses on the causes and consequences of Mexico-U.S. migration, illegal immigration and U.S. immigration policy.

Orrenius spent the 2004-2005 academic year as senior economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisers, where she advised the Bush administration on labor, health and immigration issues.
