Grayson County Drug Busts
Posted: Jan 9, 2007 04:21 PM PST
If you are an avid news watcher, you probably notice that almost every week there are drug and narcotics arrests that occur in our area.
KTEN's Shannon Murphy took the time to look into this issue and find out if and why drugs seem to be a problem and what officials are doing to prevent more activity.
Whether it's marijuana, cocaine, or methamphetamine, drugs seem to be all over our news and a serious problem in northern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. Before current laws limited the amount of pseudo-ephedrine individuals could buy and required pharmacist to check ID's and keep records of purchases Grayson County Officials say that there was a meth lab within every square mile in Grayson County. Officials told KTEN this is not unusual for a town located so closely to a major city.
Lt. Ricky Wheeler, with the Grayson County Sheriff Office said, "A lot of the meth now, which is called ice, is manufactured in Mexico and brought over the border and once it gets over the border, it comes to larger cities such as Dallas, which Dallas is considered a hub. From Dallas when the drugs are brought in, they can go east, west, and north."
Lt. Wheeler said one specific group is not the target. The narcotics unit has busted meth labs in any location from abandoned shacks to a doctors home. Lt. Wheeler told KTEN as long as tips keep coming in everyday, the Grayson County Sheriffs Office will work to get the drug suppliers and dealers off the street.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn
