FALFURRIAS--An illegal immigrant was killed in Brooks County at the end of a high-speed pursuit with a DPS trooper this morning.

A smuggler with four illegal immigrants led the trooper down a caliche road just east of Falfurrias. When the pursuit came to an end around 8 this morning, one man was dead, three illegals caught and the smuggler got away.

This is how the scene looked after a 25-year-old man from Mexico died, who was being smuggled into the U.S.. The van hit a utility pole on County Road 230-A, spun around and flipped over, killing the illegal immigrant.Inside the car, you could see glass and blood from the force of the accident.

Meanwhile, the three illegals tried to run away, but they were caught. Troopers said they're upset the smuggler got away.

"It's always frustrating when you don't catch the individual because now he caused the death of an individual and he's responsible for that," said Trooper Johnny Hernandez, a Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer. "We take it to heart the man and we want to make sure everybody complies with the law and unfortunately this individual didn't."

Border Patrol agents and authorities searched the area for awhile looking for the smuggler, but he was never found. Meanwhile, troopers shut down the road for several hours to investigate the accident.

The three illegal immigrants involved in this accident were turned over to the Border Patrol. They will be interviewed for information on the smuggler and then deported.
