LAREDO, TX.- Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal immigrant from the rÃ*o Bravo currents that almost caused him to drown.

Reports indicate that federal agents were patrolling in a boat when they detected five men that tried to cross into the United States through the river.

Officials noticed that one of the immigrants was having difficulty with the strong river currents and had submerged several times.

Immigration officials decided to give him a hand and were able to rescue the Mexican citizen.

The immigrant was treated by Border Patrol emergency technicians, who asked for an ambulance in order to give the subject medical attention because he had swallowed a great amount of water.

The other subjects that intended to cross returned to México without helping the victim.

During the previous fiscal year, the Border Patrol has rescued 390 people from dangerous situatuons such as this.
