Granjeno at 6
Petitioners cite 200-year-old Spanish land grants
GRANJENO - Granjeno residents are trying to use an international law, dating back to the 1700s, to stop the border wall from being built in their city.
The city was established around the late 1700s and early 1800s. Spain awarded citizens with land grants and landowners had to follow Spanish law.
Residents say they are still governed by those laws. They claim their property is their own and the federal government can't touch it.
Dozens of people are petitioning the federal government with this argument.

again... put the double layer fence around the town putting it on the mexican side ... it would still be america.... just on the wrong side of the fence... put in a border control station right there and control access to American citizens after a rigorous check of the vehicle...

But when Texas became part of America....doesn't American laws that say we have the right to defend our country take presidence?????
Also...if that is the ONLY part of the wall not up....and 4000 illegals come thru every night...I wonder how they would like that in their backyard??????The difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is the equivalent of the difference between a burglar and a houseguest. Border residents hope to block fence with Spanish law

GRANJENO — Their protests haven’t changed anything. Their appeals seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
So rather than try new ways to voice their opposition to the planned border fence, residents in this tiny city south of Mission are turning to an old one.
Granjeno landowners believe that centuries-old Spanish land grants give them special claim to the property their families have held for more than 10 generations.
In a letter sent to U.S. Customs and Border Protection last week, the residents argued that Spanish civil law protects their right to refuse government officials access to their land.
