City has one to grow on

Oh, what a difference a year makes. Inheriting a department in disarray, Police Chief Reece Daniel came to Jacksonville last August determined to restore the police department’s tarnished reputation and to combat the city’s growing gang problem. Daniel has managed to make sizable improvements on both fronts, but according to him, he still has plenty more to contribute.

“I’m pretty happy with my performance so far, I think I accomplished everything I had set forth to do. I think the reputation of the department has changed dramatically, both internally and externally, in the last year. Internally, the people are now proud to work here, they no longer have their heads down, and externally, I think our reputation throughout East Texas is growing,â€
