SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio police have arrested a man who was scheduled for deportation by the Department of Homeland Security after they reportedly found that he had a whole stack of phony military identification cards.

An arrest affidavit showed Mario Archaval, 41, is an immigrant from Argentina who was set to be deported because of crimes he committed in this country.

Police said they believe the fake ID cards were part of a plan by him to return to the United States after he'd been deported.

He has been arrested on a charge of forgery of a government record.
According to the affidavit, police discovered the cards after answering a disturbance call at an office on the northeast side last Monday.

Police said a person in that office, in the 9500 block of Interstate 35, handed them the cards, which they said contained Archaval's name and picture forged over somebody else's military information.

One of the people told officers that Archaval had confessed to planning to use the documents to gain access to the U.S. after he had been deported, police said.

The affidavit said Archaval was not at the office when police arrived. He had been fitted with an ankle monitor by Homeland Security, but they were not able to locate him.

Police tracked down Archaval Tuesday and arrested him.
