TX: Methodists urge for humane immigration policies
Methodists urge for humane immigration policies
Associated Press - April 24, 2008 6:25 PM ET
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Several hundred Methodists today held a rally calling for open borders and better treatment of immigrants.
They also simultaneously called their congressional representatives to voice their opposition to an immigration enforcement measure.
The calls came today during the Desert Southwest Annual Conference.
The group opposes the SAVE Act, which would strengthen borders and require employers to verify that their workers are in the U.S. legally. The immigration bill is pending, entangled in election-year politics.
Some of the 350 people at the rally held signs reading "All human beings are legal," "We are one family" and "Take down the wall." It was held outside the Fort Worth Convention Center, where more than 3,000 people are attending the United Methodist Church's general conference, held every four years.
Among the various actions during the 10-day conference are making the church's policies on immigration more comprehensive to include global issues and address recent government legislation.

I think we do a good job in out treatment of immigrants as well as Illegal Immigrants.
We need to do a better job in our deportation of Illegal Immigrants; far too many are coming in than what we are deporting.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I hope the Methodists that were inside took a good look at those protesters and heard what they were saying.

This is what I have to say to the church that I was raised in. Shame on them for supporting illegality.

501 (c)(3) status revoked for any organization (church or otherwise) that actively aids, abets and facilitates illegal aliens' presence here.
Also, FYI, the Adalberto Church in Chicago, IIRC, was a Methodist Church as well. (you know, the one that Elvira holed-up in for so long...)Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Methodists urge for humane immigration policies
Methodists urge for humane immigration policies
By ANGELA K. BROWNAssociated Press Writer
FORT WORTH, Texas -- At a rally calling for open borders and better treatment of immigrants, several hundred Methodists on Thursday simultaneously called their congressional representatives to voice their opposition to an immigration enforcement measure.
"We pray that this afternoon we might be a strong voice in favor of those who are immigrants today who suffer in river beds and who suffer in deserts and who suffer in borders, people all over the world forced into migration for the sake of survival," said the Rev. Minerva Carcano, bishop of the Desert Southwest Annual Conference.
The group opposes the SAVE Act, which would strengthen borders and require employers to verify that their workers are in the U.S. legally. The immigration bill is pending, entangled in election-year politics.
"I happen to know that this does make a difference," said Billie K. Fidlin of Phoenix, who used her cell phone to call her congressman's office at the end of the rally. "All of these phone calls at once make an impact."
"I can't help but think about the fact that here we are on the southernmost border of our country where our government is about to erect a wall to try and prevent others from coming across the southern border. It's interesting; I guess they're not worried about the northern border - just the south," said the Rev. Mark Nakagawa, senior pastor at Centenary United Methodist Church in Los Angeles.
"And even though we may be powerless to block the physical structure that is going to come up ... we have the hope in the ultimate power that can bring this wall crumbling down, and that is the power of the holy spirit," Nakagawa said. "You know I'm from California so that means I believe in earthquakes. And it's about time that we create a United Methodist faith-quake."
The Rev. Timothy Whitaker, bishop of the Florida Annual Conference, said current immigration policies have led to racism, exploitation and the breakup of families when adults are deported and children are left behind.
"We are all created in the image of God. With that conviction in mind, let us lead the way to a new view of immigrants and some enlightened policies on immigration," Whitaker said.

Their churches sponsored and paid for them to attend the conference and they spent their time outside protesting and supporting unlawful illegal immigration. I'm sure the League of Women Voters, LULAC and Catholics were out there with them.

Of course they don't want any in their neighborhoods. If they are so gung-ho, then invite them to come and live in your neighborhoods. They can fit 20-25 easily into a house and the street surely can support a couple dozen cars. Oh, the music is great too, a little loud especially at midnight when the car alarms start sounding. But, I'm sure your faith will carry you through.
