Shootings Continue Across the Border

CIUDAD CAMARGO, MEXICO - It was another night of fear for the people of Camargo, Mexico. The city is located right across the Rio Grande City Port of Entry.

Everything was quiet at the border crossing. Traffic across the bridge was light. A woman who lives next to the bridge talked about the fighting. She asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation. We'll call her Susan.

Susan says she was in Camargo three days ago. A friend called to tell her to get out shortly after a gun battle ensued. Susan says businesses and schools are closed there. She says the people are afraid.

Susan lives yards away from the bridge and knows what it's like to be afraid. She lived in Honduras and Nicaragua for 20 years. She says she's seen horrible things.

Susan says you never get used to knowing if you'll survive the day.

"Sometimes you realize that it's not going to be a good day. You're insecure about your safety and you live your life the best way you can," Susan said.

Susan says living in fear has made her appreciate living in America. Tonight, she prays for those who don't have that luxury.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS is still working to gather more information on the gun battle. We'll bring you the very latest as soon as it becomes available.
