Woman sentenced in auto title scheme

One of four people arrested in June for providing fraudulent vehicle titles and registrations for illegal immigrants was sentenced Friday to a total of 125 years in prison for her role in the scheme.

Judge Cara Wood, of the 284th state District Court, sentenced Jessica Franchesca Cabello, 46, of Humble, after Cabello pleaded guilty to five second-degree felony counts of tampering with a governmental record and five third-degree felony charges of providing false information on an application or vehicle warrants.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and its Auto Theft Task Force, along with other law enforcement agencies, arrested Cabello June 2 following an eight-month investigation into alleged fraudulent activity by vehicle title companies.

Officers also arrested Eda Barron, 39, Alfredo Barron, 37, and Brenda Padilla, 33, all of Houston. They are awaiting trial.
