EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Paso Station arrested a convicted felon, while attempting to enter the United States illegally.
On the morning of May 23, agents from the El Paso Station were patrolling the international boundary approximately two miles east of the Bridge of the Americas, when they encountered two adults and three children attempting to enter the United States illegally. The two adult subjects and children were taken into custody and transported to the El Paso Station processing facility.
During queries through several immigration and criminal databases, it was discovered that one of the adult subjects, 40-year-old Marvin Rivera Herrera, a citizen of El Salvador, had been convicted and served a nine-year prison sentence in California for attempted murder. After serving his sentence, Rivera was ordered removed from the United States only to be arrested later in his own country for possession of drugs.
Subject Rivera has been processed for violating his previous order of removal and has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility pending criminal proceedings.
In fiscal year 2018 up to late April, the El Paso Sector apprehended more than 15,000 subjects who entered into the United States illegally in El Paso Sector, of these approximately 60 percent are from Central American countries
These incidents display how vigilance by U.S. Border Patrol agents and the rapid response by the agency prevents the furtherance of convicted criminals into our communities, while keeping our nations’ borders safe.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
