U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: April 9 - April 15

(04/15/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 5,830 pounds of marijuana valued at $4,703,840. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 6 gang members. There were 7 rocking incidents.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC) and 28 illegal aliens north of the Interstate Highway 35 traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection in a tractor-trailer but fled the checkpoint after being referred to a secondary inspection. After the vehicle was stopped, a search revealed 28 illegal aliens inside the trailer and a loaded .32 caliber revolver under the driver's seat.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,290 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,032,000 and a 1992 Chevrolet van near Mission, Texas. Agents observed the van traveling on a levee and conducted a vehicle stop. The driver pulled over and absconded from the scene. A search revealed the marijuana inside the vehicle.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,185 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,747,840 and a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban near Lukeville, Arizona. Agents encountered the tracks of a vehicle that had crossed the international border and driven north. Agents followed the tracks and discovered the abandoned vehicle with the marijuana inside.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States and convicted of 1st degree manslaughter in the State of New York.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States and served a 14-year sentence for 2nd degree manslaughter in the State of New Mexico.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States and had an extensive criminal history which included convictions for larceny, forgery, possession of a weapon, and vehicle theft.

El Paso Sector – Two off-duty Border Patrol agents provided aid to several unidentified citizens involved in a single vehicle roll-over accident near El Paso, Texas. Agents were traveling to their residences when they witnessed the accident, and stopped to render assistance until emergency medical services arrived.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed he was the subject of an active warrant of arrest for kidnapping and assault in the State of Colorado.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Campo, California. Records checks revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant of arrest for murder issued in the State of California.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 179 pounds of marijuana valued at $142,960, a 1987 Ford Taurus, and arrested a USC and an illegal alien from Mexico after conducting a vehicle stop near Eloy, Arizona. Records checks revealed the USC had a prior conviction for aggravated sexual assault with bodily injury in the State of Illinois and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued a juvenile illegal alien from Mexico after he fell into a canal near Rio Grande City, Texas. An agent extracted the unresponsive subject from the water and administered chest compressions until emergency medical services arrived. The juvenile regained consciousness and was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Tecate, California. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States on two occasions and had an extensive criminal history. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 19 illegal aliens from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. The aliens claimed that shortly before being apprehended by Border Patrol agents, three bandits armed with rifles robbed them of their money. The case was referred to local law enforcement officials.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Ajo, Arizona. During processing, the subject was identified as a Sureno gang member. Records checks revealed she had been previously convicted of child cruelty and was incarcerated for nine months in the State of California.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents detained a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Komelik, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on an active felony warrant of arrest for escape.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents encountered a vehicle occupied by four subjects concealed in the brush near Shopisk, Arizona. As agents approached, one subject reached for a high-powered rifle on the dashboard of the vehicle, and an agent fired one round from his Border Patrol-issued M-4 in response. Three subjects were arrested and one subject absconded into the desert. Agents recovered a stolen AK-47 rifle, a stolen Browning 9 mm handgun, and two additional handguns.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol assisted local law enforcement officials in locating a Ford F-350 that failed to yield in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Agents located the vehicle abandoned in the desert and discovered 873 pounds of marijuana valued at $698,400.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang and has an extensive criminal history.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender and had been previously convicted of aggravated sexual abuse in the State of Illinois.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Uvalde, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject is a registered sex offender, and had been previously convicted of aggravated sexual abuse in the State of New York.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,253 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,002,400 and a 1996 Dodge van near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop when the driver failed to yield. The driver of the van abandoned the vehicle and absconded on foot. A search revealed the marijuana inside the van.
