    U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: January 1 – January 7

    (01/07/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 6,960 pounds of marijuana valued at $5,567,176. Agents arrested 5 criminal aliens and 2 gang members. There were 8 rocking incidents.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and an illegal alien from Honduras near Deming, New Mexico. Prior to the arrest of these two subjects, two separate individuals on the south side of the international border claimed they were robbed of $100 by two people who then entered the United States. Footprints near the area led to the arrest of the two illegal aliens. Both subjects were searched, but did not have any of the stolen money. Both had prior criminal and immigration histories.

    Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,108 pounds of marijuana valued at $886,000 and a 1999 Ford F-150 bearing fictitious Arizona
    license plates near Yuma, Arizona. Agents received a report of a sandbag bridge being built across the Colorado River, responded to the area, and observed a vehicle driving across the international border on the sandbag bridge. The vehicle became stuck and its driver retreated into Mexico. The marijuana was found inside the abandoned vehicle.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,010 pounds of marijuana valued at $808,280 and recovered a stolen utility vehicle bearing fictitious New Mexico license plates near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Agents observed the vehicle illegally drive across the international border. When the driver saw the agents, the vehicle retreated toward Mexico, struck a vehicle barrier, and its driver absconded into Mexico. Agents found the marijuana inside the abandoned vehicle.

    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents reported that a United States Citizen (USC) assaulted an agent near Campo, California. An agent observed six suspected illegal aliens attempt to load into a parked 1990 Honda Accord. When the agent approached, the subjects fled on foot. The agent apprehended four of the subjects in the nearby brush. Another agent responded and observed the USC entering the Honda in an attempt to abscond. As agents attempted to detain the USC, she became combative and refused to comply with commands. An agent deployed his Border Patrol issued oleoresin capsicum spray and placed her under arrest. A Border Patrol emergency medical technician responded, but the USC refused medical treatment.

    Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Iraq near Erie, Pennsylvania. Records checks revealed the subject was convicted of child molestation in the State of Georgia.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States and that he has an extensive criminal history to include possession of a controlled substance and assault causing bodily injury. The subject was also identified as a member of the Fifteenth Street Crew gang.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 333 pounds of marijuana valued at $266,496, two vehicles, and arrested three USC’s during a vehicle stop near Brackettville, Texas.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,188 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,750,000 and a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection at the checkpoint when a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed the narcotics concealed within the cargo.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,225 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,780,000, and a 1999 Ford Econoline van near Los Barreras, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle travel to the Rio Grande River and back. As agents approached the vehicle, the driver absconded and was not found. Agents discovered the marijuana concealed inside the abandoned van.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an AR-15 assault rifle, an assault pistol, and 96 pounds of marijuana valued at $76,400 near Nogales, Arizona. While conducting patrol duties, agents observed two armed individuals on a ridge in the United States near the international border. Agents recovered the weapons and the marijuana at the scene, and the subjects absconded into Mexico.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to a vehicle accident near El Paso, Texas. Agents provided assistance for the two victims and assisted emergency medical services. Both subjects were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Mexico who was trapped on a canyon ledge near Tecate, California. An agent lowered himself down onto the ledge and remained with the subject until other agents arrived and were able to help the subject to safety
