U.S. Coast Guard Conducts Two Migrant Interdictions

SAN DIEGO – The U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Diego (MSST) has interdicted two separate vessels as they each tried to illegally enter the U.S. by boat this past weekend.

At about 9 a.m. Jan. 31, the MSST interdicted a 17-foot vessel heading northbound from the International Maritime Boundary with four persons on board. Two persons were identified as undocumented illegal immigrants and two persons were identified as resident documented immigrants.

The second interdiction occurred at about midnight Feb. 1. The MSST conducted a routine boarding on a 25-foot sailing vessel with four persons on board inside San Diego Bay. One person was identified as a U.S. citizen and three persons were identified as illegal immigrants.

The eight people were turned over to officers from the Maritime Task Force for further processing. U.S. Customs and Border Protection marine enforcement agents took custody of the two vessels.
