U.S. Customs and Border Protection to hire 2,000 officers

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the agency responsible for securing U.S. ports of entry and international borders.

Some of the jobs of the officer include checking passports at the border, to checking produce as it comes in from other countries. Nearly 30 percent of CBP employees are military veterans and the agency offers unique opportunities for veterans to continue serving their country.

According to CBP, officer applicants undergo a rigorous screening process to ensure their eligibility for their employment with CBP.

CBP plans to hire 2,000 officers by the end of fiscal year 2015. A majority of the positions will be along the southwest border, which includes Southern Arizona.

Some key requirements to join the team are - pass an entrance exam and fitness test; be a U.S. citizen and resident of the U.S. for the past three years; apply for the job before their 37th birthday.
