U.S. Immigration agents arrest 3 in Michigan's Thumb

BAD AXE, MI — Three people were arrested for what police allege were roles in criminal activity involving undocumented immigrants, the Huron County Sheriff's Department reports.


About 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency in Detroit made the arrests near Bad Axe, the sheriff's office reports, following a "lengthy ongoing investigation" that began as a joint probe between the Bad Axe Police Department and the Huron County Sheriff's Department.

"The two adult females and one adult male arrested this morning were then taken to the Bay City Federal Court House to be arraigned on federal charges," the sheriff's department said in a news release. "Their investigation is likely to continue."

CBP Aviation and the Michigan State Police were also involved in the incident, police said.

Additional information was not immediately available.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency had helicopters flying over Bad Axe on Friday, Dec. 18, according to a media report.

A media inquiry made Friday afternoon with U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement was not immediately answered.
