Nor would I like to see a huge wall, that could potentially harm the local wildlife, running down the border of my state. You build a wall, they'll dig a tunnel.

We're spending more in Iraq in one month than it would take to fence off the entire border. The money and resources are available.

The above statement adds absolutely nothing to your argument because to do nothing for fear of criminals attempting to "beat the system" is a ludicrous thought.

Your thought process would have us strip all preventive security measures from our lives. It's understood that some criminals will always find away to "beat the system" (or at least try), but that doesn't mean that we should just throw our hands up in despair and give up in our attempt at stopping them - to do so would invite chaos. Very few security initiatives are 100% fail proof, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to piece together a system, including fences, that will aid us in slowing illegal immigration. Do law enforcement officials stop 100% of the crime, does a bank security guards stop 100% of the bank robbers, do security cameras stop all shoplifters, do speed limit signs stop all speeders, does criminal prosecution stop all potential criminals? Of course not, but the initiatives do act as a deterrent. IMHO, 2.2 billion is a small price to pay for added security along our Southern border!

For the tunnels ... I think we need to add a line of underground mines .. just little ones that would "implode" send a signal and then we could spot the tunnel clean up the mess and shut it down.

They'd eventually get tired of that.

We already have the technology. The oil and gas industry uses it.
