U-S relaxes immigration rules to reunite Cuban families

WASHINGTON The Bush administration says it's going to relax immigration rules for a limited number of Cubans who want to reunite with relatives living in the U-S.
The policy shift comes nearly two weeks after Cuban leader Fidel Castro's temporary handoff of power to his brother, Raul, for health reasons. The change is aimed, in part, at pressuring the Castro regime into giving Cubans official permission to head to the U-S safely, rather than risking their lives at sea.

At the same time, the administration is warning that those who try to sneak into the country face having their visa applications canceled or rejected.

The new rules are being considered three months before elections in which Florida's governorship and at least one House seat are considered to be in play. Many Cuban immigrants live in the state.

I didn't think our immigration laws could be any more relaxed.

I don't know why Bush is saying that. He doesn't write the immigration laws. He's playing another game! You know if you relax it for the Cubans, you'll have to relax it for everyone else. That whole idea sounds like a trap and a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!

I think everyone should write their congressmen and tell them not to change the policy because it may cause more illegal immigration from other countries. It's setting a precedence. The only thing going on in Cuba is a change of leadership, just like in Mexico. Hint, hint! So far, nothing else has occurred. There is no justification in bending the immigration laws for the Cubans. "Something is rotten in Denmark"

At this point, any Bush policy is bad policy.

Bush sees himself as a monarch??? A king??? A god??? Relaxed immigration, what about some relaxed gas prices jorge? Think you can do as you please then lower the prices. You want to give, then give to Americans. But that's not the goal is it???

What in the hell???? According to the US Constitution, Congress sets immigration law not the executive branch!!!!!

Exactly right! Its time we take back our government.

What about relaxing the burden us peasants (US citizens) take on every day?

ALIPAC NOTE: According to the US Constitution, Article 11, immigration laws are set by the US Congress. We do not understand how the Bush administration can unilaterally decide to set immigration law with regard to Cuba.
