EDINBURG — Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are scheduled to meet with President Obama this month to address concerns about the continued influx of Central Americans illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border through the Rio Grande Valley.

U.S. Rep. Ruben Hinojosa, D-Mercedes, who is also the chairman of the Hispanic Caucus, said at a Saturday morning news conference that he scheduled the July 23 meeting with Obama after meeting with the ambassadors of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico to learn the root issue of why people are fleeing their countries and what needs to be done to turn things around.

“This is something the federal government is responsible for handling,” Hinojosa said.

Hinojosa said after gathering details and information from the ambassadors from those countries he and the members of the caucus will present a six-page report to Obama that offers ideas on how to handle what the president has termed a “humanitarian crisis.”

“We have a report that we will give to the president that outlines the ways that he can use his presidential authority. He can do what he did with the DREAMers and exempt these unaccompanied minors,” Hinojosa said.

The congressman said he visited immigrant detention facilities and Border Patrol stations in the Valley. He said more spaces will be created to hold immigrants will open if Congress passes the proposed $3.7 billion that Obama has requested.

Hinojosa said $1.5 million of Obama’s request would go to reimbursing local governments in the Valley that have provided services to handle the immigrant influx.

Pathetic America, creating all these "housing spaces" for invaders, we have thousands of homeless war veterans. Our government is not even considering addressing that! They are providing health care for aliens, they cannot even provide trustworthy health care to veterans. Last week reports of cover-ups going on yet even afetr the discovery that it was being done. Lindsey Graham wants to give Obama what he asks for, so that they cannot be blamed as republicans. Sen. Graham, not controlling Obama is what you are blamed for!! What is it that you obviously do not understand?

Frankly, I do not truly believe that our government could even manage a 1940's dime store!! Most of those stores probably had annual sales of $20k, some more, some less.

It is time to return to Constitutional law, repeal all other law, then pass some sensible law and few enough so that they are not contradictory/
