U.S. teen among gang members arrested in Juárez

A U.S. teenager was among a group of heavily-armed gang members arrested in Juárez by Mexican federal police, officials said Tuesday.

Authorities said the six young men are allegedly members of the Mexicles, a violent gang allied with the Pacific (Sinaloa) drug cartel.

The arrests occurred Sunday after police received a call about armed men on Avenida Brecha de Pemex. Police stopped a car where officers found an AK-47 and a shotgun on the floorboards, three passengers with handguns and more than six pounds of marijuana in a suitcase.

Among those arrested was Roberto Junior Rodriguez Guzman, 18, alias "El Pelón" ("Baldy"), who authorities described as a U.S. citizen originally from North Carolina.

The others arrested were Ricardo Chavez Rodriguez, 23, alias "El Acné," the alleged leader of the gang crew; Nestor Isaac Cazares Olivas, 22, aka "El Sexy;" Luis Alberto Rodriguez Vazquez, 21; Edgar Ivan Dominguez Reyes, 20; and Miguel Angel Morales Ponce, 26.
