MORRIS COUNTY An undocumented immigrant from Ireland, who has been living in Boonton, admitted Wednesday that he robbed a total of $57,513 from banks in Wharton and Randolph during incidents in 2007 and 2010, according to court officials.

Alan Nolan, 39, pleaded guilty before Judge David Ironson in Superior Court in Morristown to two counts of robbery.

Under a plea agreement, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is recommending a 12-year prison sentence that would require Nolan serve 85 percent of the term before becoming eligible for parole, court officials said.

The prosecutor’s original plea offer was 22 years, according to court records. Nolan’s attorney, Peter Gilbreth, said he will be asking for a 10-year term when Nolan is sentenced on Jan. 27.

Nolan understands he will likely be deported back to Ireland after he finishes his prison sentence, Gilbreth said.

Nolan admitted that he robbed $11,302 from the Bank of New York branch in Wharton on Feb. 6, 2007, and robbed $46,211 from the Chase Bank on Dover-Chester Road in Randolph on Nov. 4, 2010. Nolan threatened bank employees during both incidents, according to police.

The case was cracked after Nolan fled from the Randolph robbery and dropped a bar-coded swipe card from a YMCA in the parking lot of a nearby Dunkin Donuts.

The card, issued by the Lakeland Hills Y in Mountain Lakes, was traced to Nolan, whose son was enrolled in the day-care program at the Y, according to an affidavit signed Randolph Police Sgt. William Harzula.
