Undocumented workers going to Prescott jobs

A Yavapai County sheriff's deputy, traveling on Interstate-17 eight miles from Cordes Junction, observed a panel van with Alabama license plates that was being driven erratically. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, identified by a Mexican voter's registration card as Chavo Granado-Hernandez, 30.

The driver said he was from Phoenix and was taking a group of his friends to Prescott to work. Sixteen people were in the van, including four females and 12 males, including the driver. One passenger told the deputy he was from Mexico, had been living in Phoenix and was now headed for work but he did not know where or what city.

YCSO contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which agreed to help transport the 16 individuals to the Camp Verde jail. ICE took control of all subjects at the jail and transported them to Phoenix. The van was found to have an interior modified to carry numerous passengers.
