University of Arizona students to erect mock border wall in protest of border policies

TUCSON, Ariz. — Students at the University of Arizona are planning to erect the largest mock border wall in the country in protest of border enforcement policies in Arizona and nationwide.

The students plan to use barbed wire to build a wall about 400 yards long, or the size of four football fields, in the middle of the Tucson campus.

They plan to put the wall up Monday and have it there for 10 days, blocking a major traffic area on campus.

The students participating say they're alarmed by increasing anti-immigrant legislation and sentiment throughout Arizona and the country, and "aim to create an unavoidable crisis on campus to expose the larger human catastrophe."

This is funny. Absolutely no local media has reported on this. Perhaps they'll ignore it and these fools won't get any publicity.

Sounds better than the wall Napolitano cannot seem to finish! Maybe nappy should supervise the event and get some pointers from these young anarchists who seemingly hate this country so much. In addition, I would be concerned that an event like this might be a breeding ground for some of those "home grown terrorists" she so often speaks of.

Students have such an inflated idea of their own importance. They contribute nothing to society yet seem to think the world should stop revolving at their command. Illegal students are the worst. They want to change U.S. law simply because that's what they want.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – As University of Arizona students come back from spring break they'll be returning to a divided campus, literally.

A chain link fence was erected this weekend on the UA Mall. It's called Wall to Wall Concrete Connections and its part of Immigration Week at the UA.

UA's No More Deaths, a humanitarian organization along with other groups on campus are behind this project. The fence represents both the U.S-Mexican border and the separation barrier in Palestine and Israel. The aim is to get college students talking about the highly debated issues.

"We are hoping to cause a situation, a mini-crisis on campus where we restrict the freedom of movement," says Francisco Baires, UA No More deaths.

The fence is about four football fields in length, making it one of the largest symbolic borders" in the country. Nearly 50,000 people walk through the area when classes are in session, Brent Lawler is one of them.

"It doesn't bother me. I like to work out. A little exercise isn't going to bother me but I definitely think it will bug some students," he says.

In order to get the fences up, organizers had to go get permits and insurance. It took about eight months of planning.

There has been local news on it now, but they're having a hard time to find students that'll comment on it. One chanel said many students thought it was a construction project. One said they should put a sign on it so people will know what it is for.

They do have barbed wire on top. I don't know for sure, but it was probably rented. People should come by with wire cutters like they do at the real border fence. If damaged, the rental company should charge these open borders groups for damages.

C anyou belive the university said they couldnt prohibit it because it is a freedom of speech issue. I bet you could think of a lot of other offensive things that they'd prohibit as being offensive. We see it all the time.
