US assures certain DR laws need to be “refined� for Free Trade

Santo Domingo.- Undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Patrick Duddy, affirmed that rules and complementary laws are yet to refined in order for the Dominican Republic to enter the DR-CAFTA, but stated that the accord will be launched sometime this year.

One of the pending issues relates to the Distributor Contract Transference Law No. 173.

Duddy said that the US Trade Representative office is currently analyzing the documents sent by the Dominican government.

The US official met with leaders of the different sectors linked to the DR-CAFTA, which included among other entrepreneurs and government officials,

Kefin Manning, William Malamud, Luis Manuel Pellerano, Arturo Peguero, Luis Heredia Bonetti and Vilma Arbaje, director of the Foreign Trade office within the Industry and Commerce Ministry.
