US deported 567 Indians in 2013 and 2014

As many as 567 Indians were deported to India by federal law enforcement agencies of the U.S. in the last two years, while more than 6,300 Indians were detained at the country’s border during the same period as they tried to sneak into the country.

The figures were released by the U.S. immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) to the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).


In fiscal 2013, 4,057 Indian nationals were detailed by federal law enforcement agencies, of which 2,539 were released either by bond or on parole, NAPA executive director Satnam Singh Chahal said.


The number of Indians detained at the U.S. borders while trying to illegally sneak in the year 2014 dropped to 2,306, according to figures released by the ICE.


In 2014, 2,300 Indians were released on either bond or parole.

It is not necessarily of those released in 2014 were detained the same year, the ICE clarified.


According to the ICE, in 2013, 286 Indians were deported to India and 281 in 2014.
