US-Mexico border fence almost complete
US-Mexico border fence almost complete
Jan. 27, 2009 01:28 PM
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - The Homeland Security Department says the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border is mostly finished.
Customs and Border Protection spokesman Lloyd Easterling says that 601 miles of the project had been completed as of a week ago.
Easterling says 69 miles of the fence still must be built to meet the goal set during the Bush administration.
In December, then President-elect Barack Obama said he wanted to evaluate border security operations before he considers whether to finish building the fence under his administration.
Easterling said the Obama White House has not told Homeland Security to stop building the fence.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano - the former governor of Arizona - has said a fence alone will not stop illegal immigration

yea but remember, they count the vehicle barrier and the pedistrian barriers as being part of the fence also. they are not counting the 15 foot tall fence.

"Easterling said the Obama White House has not told Homeland Security to stop building the fence."
So where are all of the people who were saying if Obama was elected he would stop the fence building his first day in office?
Where are all of the people who said that Obama would tear down the fece his first week in office?NO AMNESTY

Had I the wherewithal and no responsibilities keeping me home, I would happily volunteer to help build these last miles.
And for Nappy to tell Americans their best effort to secure this country is for naught, that I find personally as goading the people into action, whether she realizes it or not.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

There is a story on this over a http://www.fark.com under the headline;
Good news. The border fence is almost done. In other news; So is that new ladder factory in Nogales
This is a link to the comment section on this story. The Fark comments is a good place to get a wider spectrum of opinions. (Though blood may start to boil!).

From what I've been reading, the fence is far from complete (with bogus vehicle barriers counted etc.) -- at least from what was mandated in 2006.
If the AP wasn't so lazy and biased, they would have contacted Glenn Spencer for his analysis of this.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
