Using Christmas to preach politics of immigration

Once again the righteousness of God is ignored by those who would use His name to swindle America into believing that another amnesty for illegal immigrants is the only humane answer to a complex political problem ["Celebrants tie religion and politics," Local, Dec. 20].

The 1987 amnesty granted to then-illegal immigrants proved that is not the case. Hiding behind the cloak of God's humanity while choosing to disobey His guidance to be honest (to not lie, cheat, steal) does Him no honor. We display the love and power of God by working hard and playing fair. "Do unto others" is the golden rule for a reason.

Those who are in this country illegally, as well as those who aid and abet them, are tearing our great nation apart by insisting this special group get to cut into "the line." The final insult will come when Congress grants yet another politically expedient amnesty.

Here we go again. Roman Catholic Auxiliary Bishop Jaime Soto is at it again, trying to blur the line between legal and illegal immigration ["Celebrants tie religion, politics"]. There should not be rights for illegal immigrants of any nationality.

Legal immigrants have all the rights provided in the Constitution because they are our new and respected fellow American citizens who chose the correct path of citizenship. They are afforded these rights by the fact that they went through the legal processes of citizenship, which is often difficult due to the invaders who are jumping in front of the line.

Please spare the American people articles about how the illegal immigrants in this country deserve anything but deportation. I speak these words in behalf of the majority of taxpaying American citizens, and Bishop Soto can't and won't change that.
