Washington • A Utah-born, common-ground approach to fixing America’s broken immigration system was part of a White House discussion Tuesday and may serve as a model in moving the dicey debate forward.

John Wester, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City and an architect of the Utah Compact, was one of the leaders invited to the meeting that included President Barack Obama and a bevy of Cabinet heads.

Wester said people in the room Tuesday seemed intrigued by how Utah is trying to tackle the immigration issue as compared with Arizona, which enacted a hard-line, law enforcement-only law last year. The Utah Compact is a set of ideals stressing humane treatment of undocumented residents and the need for a federal solution. It was endorsed by a broad range of Utah religious, business and community leaders.

The only fixing that needs to be done is enforce America's existing immigration laws, which should have been done a long time ago, instead of being blocked and allowing millions of undocumented criminals unlawfully reside in the U.S. without any justice for the crimes.

Most people are wondering how such a great Country as the United States has fallen apart as it has? It is easy to understand what caused the problem that is affecting many Americans lives and this Country as well. When there are 12 or more millions of illegal immigrants employing jobs and are paid low wages under tables, and are not paying taxes to help keep the U.S. functioning, and millions of citizens currently unemployed, this explains why America is rapidly hitting rock bottom.

Who is the blame for such unlawful actions and present problems? Illegal alien’s Dream Act supporters, and those that are causing laws to be blocked against undocumented aliens. Those people have not only destroyed the lives of many American citizens, they have also abused our Country laws, and Justice System. Have allowed fraud and criminals take control over almost the entire United States, by aiding and abetting with illegal aliens. And they should be held accountable for the illegal actions all of them. Frankly, they too should be standing in unemployment lines beside our unemployed citizens. Possibly, they will be there soon.
