A number of Help Save Manassas members returned to the informal day laborer site at the 7-11 on Coverstone Drive this morning and documented what we believe to be violations of state and federal laws, as well as reported drinking in public and public urination violations to the Prince William County Police Department. Members of this Crime Prevention Team spent a little more than two hours on site, and as now seems to be usual, drew a response from John Steinbach of Mexicans Without Borders, Gaudencio Fernandez, and Eric Byler.

We showed up a little before 8 AM, and found about thirty-six day laborers at the 7-11 and the adjacent vacant property. We ran into a number of residents who were very interested in what we were doing and who expressed an interest in learning about how they could participate in future Crime Prevention Team activities. Some folks swinging by weren’t quite so happy to see us. There were quite a few that drove onto the access road in front of 7-11 and drove right on past, without stopping at the 7-11 or doing anything other than taking a strange, short scenic detour. The day laborers seemed to be fairly well behaved towards me, although they treated the female members of the team quite differently — even making gunfire noises to one and saying something that sounded like “mit-ray-a-bahnâ€
