SIOUX CITY -- A federal grand jury has indicted a Mexican national on drug and immigration charges.
Samuel Octavio-Mar Betancourt, also known as Samuel Ramirez-Rodriguez, 28, who had been living in Crawford County, Iowa, is charged with one count each of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distributing methamphetamine and illegally re-entering the United States.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the indictment said that from January 2007 though Jan. 4, Octavio-Mar Betancourt conspired with others to sell more than 500 grams of meth. He was found illegally in the United States on Sept. 5.
If convicted as charged, he would face a mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentence and a possible maximum of life in prison.
