Illegal entry into U.S. derailed by Customs officers

Posted by John de Leon

A Honduran national was taken into custody Monday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Blaine when he was spotted riding aboard a railroad car that had entered into the U.S. from Canada.

Jeziel Elvir-Arteaga, 26, was detected aboard a freight car when the train passed through a Customs and Border Protection X-ray imaging station. Because Elvir-Arteaga lacked proper identification, his fingerprints were entered into a computerized database designed to share fingerprint information among federal law enforcement agencies. It was discovered that he had twice been removed from the U.S.

Elvir-Arteaga is now at the Northwest Detention Center where he is awaiting criminal prosecution
