Yakima -- When it comes America's reliance on illegal migrant workers.

Kent Lundgren and the Association of Former Border Patrol Officers think we have it all wrong.

Kent Lundgren, Border Patrol Officer says, "The American people outta bring the American worker out of the shadows, not the illegal alien."

While the Feds try to determine whether or not to fine business owners who hire illegal workers.

The Association of Former Border Patrol Officers are pitching their plan to politicians.

Kent Lundgren, Border Patrol Officer says, "We would prefer that American employers find their temporary workers in Michigan instead of Michoacan."

What he wants is to fill empty jobs with unemployed steel workers and car factory workers on the other side of the country and move them to
farm communities.

John Thompson, Thompson Farm says, "I don't think it'll ever fly."

But some local farmers aren't buying it.

The past growing season farmers had a tough time filling jobs.

And they worry they could lose half their staff with an immigration crackdown.

John Thompson, Thompson Farm says, "Probably on the hourly basis between 8-10 dollars an hour and we're looking at people who are used to a lot higher scale."

Besides financial reasons, Thompson says that with our current nearly fiver percent unemployment rate we don't have enough American workers to fill all the positions migrant workers do.

Lundgren disagrees.

Kent Lundgren, Border Patrol Officer says, "If you did farther into their report you find that the actual unemployment rate is nearly 80 percent higher, it's about 8.4 percent."

John Thompson, Thompson Farm says, "The best thing we can rely on is good, confident people that want to work hard but I don't think we can bring them in from the outside."
