As We See It: Illegal immigrants good for the economy

The issue of illegal immigration provokes responses that often go to extremes.

As in, "There are too many illegal immigrants, and they're taking our jobs and driving down wages and are a drain on social services â€â€

Economist Donald Huddle of Rice University estimated that American taxpayers pay $93 billion a year in taxes, net (after subtracting taxes paid by immigrants) to cover fiscal costs incurred by legal and illegal aliens.

If illegal immigrants are made criminals, or shipped back across the border, or if it was somehow possible to keep them out entirely, who would fill their jobs and keep the economy growing?

Who did the jobs before the invasion genius? Employers would be forced to pay a livable wage that would allow US citizens to take these jobs. Employers are using illegals as slave labor and elected officials are looking the other way!

This report should become part of the debate over immigration policy.

This report should become part of the debate over immigration policy. The report's conclusion that illegal immigration is good for the national economy should help the federal government acknowledge that states need help paying for educating, housing, policing and caring for illegal immigrants.

Why would the states need help paying for educating, housing, policing and caring for illegal immigrants if they contribute so much ?????
