White House Announces Trump to Visit Southern Border

President Donald Trump will travel to the Southern border on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed on Monday.

“President Donald Trump will travel to the Southern border on Thursday to meet with those on the frontlines of the national security and humanitarian crisis,” Sanders wrote on Twitter.


Trump first expressed interest in visiting the border in January during a Christmas Day interview with reporters.



“[Y]ou’ll see it because in January I’m going there,” Trump said at the time. “We’re almost having a groundbreaking – it’s such a big section. It’s probably the biggest section we’ll get out. So while we’re fighting over funding, we’re also building.”



The White House announced news of the border trip as the partial government shutdown continues into its 17th day, with no end in sight.

Democrats continue to block any funding bill for the government that includes Trump’s requested money for border security.

Update: President Trump confirmed Monday afternoon he will speak to the nation Tuesday night, “I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border. Tuesday night at 9:00 P.M. Eastern.”

President Trump is scheduled to visit the Southern border on Thursday, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders who made the announcement via Twitter on Monday. Trump visited the border in San Diego last March to review border wall prototypes.

The New York Times reported Monday on the White House asking networks to interrupt their prime time schedules Tuesday night for a presidential address on the partial government shutdown over funding for a border wall and border security measures.


“President Trump wants to address the nation about the government shutdown on Tuesday night, and later in the week plans to travel to the southern border as part of his effort to persuade Americans of the need for a border wall — the sticking point in negotiations with Democrats who are eager to reopen shuttered agencies.


“The White House did not immediately respond to questions about a request to television networks to carve out time for an Oval Office address. A person familiar with the request said the White House had asked to interrupt prime time programming on Tuesday.”


Trump posted an update Sunday on the ongoing negotiations with Congress, “V.P. Mike Pence and group had a productive meeting with the Schumer/Pelosi representatives today. Many details of Border Security were discussed. We are now planning a Steel Barrier rather than concrete. It is both stronger & less obtrusive. Good solution, and made in the U.S.A.”

About the wall---I don't really care if it is steel or concrete, it could be chicken feathers glued together, if that would keep them out.

What I want is them kept out! I am also concerned that a 50 ft, wall will not keep them out, if our politicians want them in, because they will just order BP to assist them over, like they are doing now. That is happening with a Republican President, with a Trump presidency.

I just want it built, and stop all this promising and talking about it, tweeting about it, lying about it. BUILD it!

I can tell it is still just a yapping fest. How do I know that? Every time Trump says steel---he also adds made in America. Why does he have to say that? Concrete is or could be made in America. So, he's still just yapping. He says made in America to please some of his base, not realizing others are smart enough to think, duh isn't concrete made in the USA.

American steel has always had a reputation for being a very high quality steel, a very strong steel, that's why he mentions it. It's also one of his policies that all purchases when possible by the US government would be for American products, part of his Buy American Hire American program.

They don't have to go over or under the wall .

All they have to do is walk up to any Port of Entry and request ASYLUM and they get to walk in the front door.

Or they can come by boat or ship and land on any of the 95,000 miles of unprotected shoreline.

They can also enter at any airport with a visa and just not leave when the visa expires, as they do every day.

You just brought the point I was making into focus. Doesn't USA concrete have a good reputation? Wouldn't American made concrete fall under his policy of Buy American Hire American program?

Yes I think so, not maybe as famous as our steel, but yes, to my knowledge our American made concrete is great concrete and if he was getting money for a big beautiful concrete wall, he would be telling the media it would be an American made concrete wall. But he can't get the money for the concrete wall, so he plugging the steel wall.

Exactly! The wall would be a help, if our politicians wanted to keep them out, but it will be of little to no help at all as long as we have the politicians to assist them with other methods of entry. When I say politicians, I am referring to both D's and R's. That is what needs to change. I definitely include Trump in that list of politicians. Some of those politicians are open, honest, and in your face open borders, others are "open borders" in private while pretending to be the opposite. Trump falls into the last category. I have just as little respect for the last group as I have for the first group, perhaps less respect. It is harder to fight the enemy if people are not aware or can not admit who the enemy is.
