White House seeking GOP support for illegal alien amnesty plan

(AgapePress) -- An immigration-reform expert is alarmed over news that the White House is working behind closed doors with a handful of senators to hammer out an amnesty plan for illegal immigrants.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez have reportedly been working with a group of senators to develop a new immigration proposal. The group includes Republicans Mel Martinez of Florida and John McCain of Arizona, as well as several GOP lawmakers who did not support the last Senate amnesty plan -- John Cornyn (Texas), John Kyl (Arizona), John Ensign (Nevada), and Johnny Isakson (Georgia) among them.
Jim Edwards of the Hudson Institute says the legislation is separate from a plan being developed by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts), and will likely feature some enforcement measures coupled with a legalization program for the estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S.
Under the plan, Edwards explains, those who are in the country illegally would be granted a three-year temporary visa. Those who want to become naturalized citizens would be allowed to cross back over the border for an hour, get papers for a green card, and then reenter the U.S. That scenario, he says, is "a pretty big joke."
"One person could go [to get the papers] for the entire family," says Hudson, "and not everybody would be required to return home. So it's the appearance of getting them to return home, or at least outside of the U.S., to get their legalization papers."
The Hudson Institute spokesman admits it is not clear to him why the senators are aligning themselves with the proposed plan. "It would be interesting to know what motivates them to feel they have to embrace the least popular president since Richard Nixon at Watergate [and] who is a lame-duck," he states, particularly "if they want to be re-elected to the Senate." As he puts it, "they have little to gain and a lot to lose" in doing so.
Edwards says by approving an amnesty plan for illegal aliens, GOP senators would in effect be "importing future Democratic voters." He also maintains it would create the dynamic for another huge amnesty to deal with in another decade or less.

All senators who vote for amnesty should be unemployed as soon as possible. Bush knows that he has nothing to loose but everything to gain for his bother.

-- John Cornyn (Texas),
Does... liar, liar pants on fire... fit...
His office tries to play dumb and say the didn't know what the CFR was...and did not know Johnny was a part of the little Elitist group...working for the NAU/SPP
Then they tried to tell me he had the best voting record against Amnesty...but they would not answer if he was against quest worker program...And this program would not be amnesty because they would have to pay a fine...that when I started laughing....
They REALLY BELIEVE WE AMERICANS ARE STUPID!Never look at another flag. Remember, that behind Government, there is your country, and that you belong to her as you do belong to your own mother. Stand by her as you would stand by your own mother

Do you see the correlation between John and Amnesty? Are they interchangeable now?
